Diagramming sentences is a way to SHOW how the words in a sentence are related to each other.
The fun thing about interjections is that they are actually not grammatically related to the rest of the sentence, and sentence diagrams of interjections make that easy to see. To diagram an interjection, you simply float it on a line hovering above the rest of the sentence. They are not joined to any other part of the sentence. Holy cow! This cake is delicious! |
That's a pretty good way of showing that they aren't related to any of the other words, isn't it?

Hello there. My name is Elizabeth O'Brien, and I love sentence diagramming. I majored in Elementary Education and TESOL in college. After teaching for a few years and seeing how well diagramming sentences worked in the classroom, I wanted to bring diagramming back into style! I started reading books and articles about how to start a website, and you're looking at the outcome. Grammar Revolution is now my full-time employer, and I love it. Welcome to the website. I hope it inspires you to love grammar and language. |
