Yippee! A List of Interjections!

This list of interjections should help you understand interjections a little better. For more information on interjections, go to the interjections page.

Quick Refresher:

Interjections are words that show emotion. They are not grammatically related to the rest of the sentence.

List of Interjections

A: aha, ahem, ahh, ahoy, alas, arg, aw

B: bam, bingo, blah, boo, bravo, brrr

C: cheers, congratulations

D: dang, drat, darn, duh

E: eek, eh, encore, eureka

F: fiddlesticks

G: gadzooks, gee, gee whiz, golly, goodbye, goodness, good grief, gosh

H: ha-ha, hallelujah, hello, hey, hmm, holy buckets, holy cow,

holy smokes, hot dog, huh?, humph, hurray

O: oh, oh dear, oh my, oh well, oops, ouch, ow

P: phew, phooey, pooh, pow

R: rats

S: shh, shoo

T: thanks, there, tut-tut

U: uh-huh, uh-oh, ugh

W: wahoo, well, whoa, whoops, wow

Y: yeah, yes, yikes, yippee, yo, yuck


Diagram Interjections

Diagramming sentences is a way to SHOW how the words in a sentence are related to each other.

The fun thing about interjections is that they are actually not grammatically related to the rest of the sentence, and sentence diagrams of interjections make that easy to see.

To diagram an interjection, you simply float it on a line hovering above the rest of the sentence.

They are not joined to any other part of the sentence.


Holy cow! This cake is delicious!

That's a pretty good way of showing that they aren't related to any of the other words, isn't it?
