What is a Fuel? Fuel is any material that stores potential energy in a form that can be practicably released and used as heat energy. Chemical fuels are divided in two ways. First, by their physical properties, as a solid, liquid or gas. Secondly, on the basis of their occurrence: primary (natural fuel) and secondary (artificial fuel). Fuel oil is made of long hydrocarbon chains, particularly alkanes, cycloalkanes and aromatics. Table of alkanes

What kind of fuel do jets use?
Jet fuel is a clear to straw-colored fuel, based on either an unleaded kerosene (Jet A-1), or a naphtha-kerosene blend (Jet B). It is similar to diesel fuel, and can be used in either compression ignition engines or turbine engines. Here are further guidelines. |
